The vastness of space and time in Aniara

Movie: Aniara
Language: Swedish

For my free choice I went though my list of movies that I jotted down to watch at some point.  I decided what the hell, let's watch this space movie that I knew next to nothing about.  I like space horror!  I knew so little about this, I didn't even realize it was Swedish until they started talking.

It's about a plush colony ship going to Mars, but gets knocked off course and they lack the fuel to get back on course.

There are some things that don't really work in this movie, they seem to have booze and drugs WAY longer than they should.  Their ship is the most Euro looking ship interior plus nightclubs, it seems painfully obvious that this was filmed at some mall and hotel.

There's also a weird room, which lets people escape reality by causing visions inside their heads.  It's an odd addition of a very out of place technology, when everything else seems pretty feasible.  But in spite of these things...

I did really like this movie though.  And my god, at the end I felt worn out, and it infected my dreams for the night.  I don't want to give away too much if you want to watch it, but this is a great movie about hope, space and time, and does a great job showing our efforts against the vast distances when we move out of our realm.

You should watch this.  It's not perfect, but I really liked it.  The ending makes all the silly stuff worth it.
