The Uninitiated Take: Color Out of Space

"A dream you dream together is a reality"
Ok, I came at this movie with no background knowledge of the Lovecraft story, or really not much Lovecraft knowledge at all. And I will say - I loved this movie too! Creepy, crazy, fun use of color (what a surprise) and it has Mr. Cage, one of my favorite horror guys - although he doesn't go too off the wall here; he's just a nice family guy that really loves his wife. Actually, nice, close families are really turning out to be a theme for my horror playlist this year, since this viewing is right on the heels of the Katakuris weirdness as well. Interesting themes of cancer and body horror.

Reviewer and free choice day: Noël
Most surprising but excellent casting: Tommy Chong
Cool scene: Father sleeps in front of the tv, with crazy static reflected like space in his glasses. As the camera focuses on the static and draws in closer, the reflections now move to our own eyes as the viewers.
Most annoying scene: I didn't care for the glimpse of the "other world" origin of the meteor; I prefer backstory to be intriguing and open to interpretation, rather than that CGI that looks like fractal crap or blobs. Thankfully it was just a quick flash.
Questions for Paris: What is the difference between "Wiccan vs Alexandrian" per the early mention in the movie? Also, there seemed to be reference to a compass and a set of binoculars every once in a while. Do those symbolize anything?

  1. I didn't quiet get the Alexandrian vs Wiccan thing either, I think Alexandrian is a kind of Wiccan. I think. Modern Wicca isn't something I have a deep knowledge of.

Same with the compass and binoculars, I dont know anything specific about those either.

I loved the scobi in the shower
