Review: The remake, right from the start told you it was not going to be the same movie when the initial protagonist going on a date gets killed within the first few minutes. The rest of the movie became a over the top gore fest of green screen gooeyness. I do love the 80's special effects and gore gross outs and the fact not all the body parts were fully digested when attaching another person.

It was interesting that the theme of not judging a book by it's cover, was still prevalent in both movies. In the original, it was showing our bias that all teenagers are hooligans and can't be trusted, which the movie goes to show the kids were the smarter people of the town. In the remake they took the stereotypes of rich Jock kid (good) and the poor Punk kid (bad) and flipped it. So kind of neat to see that theme still there.

What is also interesting is the religious tone of the remake. It seemed like anyone that mentioned sex or sexualization of anything was killed. The boy who made a comment about the hot blond woman in a movie to the kid buying condoms that were ribbed. Another part of the story that backs this up was the Reverend, who saw the Blob as a sign from god and later started preaching about the reckoning. The original Blob just killed everyone it could.

Overall, the remake was entertaining and added a more modern twist about the origin of the Blob and the potential for a sequel, but I have to say the original was my favorite out of the two.

Carla says, another nice part about the remake was that they cast people that looked more high school ages then the original.

My Rating: 2 Space Satellites and 1 Rocket Launcher
