Wow! Ok I know I kind of strong-armed my way into seeing this, but I was not disappointed. Wonderfully done movie about the passage of life through families, about the pain of letting go of your mother, and the terror of dementia/Alzheimer's. This is going to be one of my favorites from this challenge, for sure.
Also, that lady had a GIANT dog door.
ReplyDeleteYeah Carla and I really liked Relic. Carla says she thinks the reason why the door from the cabin is on the house, is because the grandmother is basically living in a bigger cabin which is loneliness and abandonment. Also, thought that the house represented the grandmother's brain and the deterioration of her mind from dementia/Alzheimer's.
DeleteAgreed - the house really seems to represent her mind and mental deterioration. I really enjoyed how when the daughter and mother got a good look at it, they realized how dangerous it had truly grown.
DeleteI also enjoyed how the mother started out trying to ignore or otherwise not deal with the grandmother's state. She admitted to the police that she didn't talk with her mother often, and then she tried to just get her situated to an assisted living home. Then the 180 at the end is so poignant, but you see the daughter suddenly comprehend what will be coming next.
