Eraserhead

I feel like I finally understand what 90% of bizzaro fiction writers are striving for.  They all saw this, were suitably impressed and thought "I can do that!".

I assume in the annals of movie history, this is an amazing break from the norm.  I can't speak to that.  I assume everything in here is couched in metaphor and symbolism, but I am not smart enough to analyze it.

Instead I am left with a movie that takes place in a seemingly industrial nightmare, featuring characters just doing seemingly random things, interspersed by even more random hallucinations or dreams.

It's not for me.  I am sure it is brilliant, and was something entirely unique and creative at the time.  I don't think we can say the same for the scores of bizzaro novels that followed.
