Bonus Short: Adventures of Ichabod Crane

We had movie night with Oren tonight (10/16) and I told him we were going to watch a halloween movie and a surprise movie he would recognize.  The first half of this was The Adventures of Mr. Toad, based on Wind in the Willows which we are currently reading.  It was pretty great seeing Oren explain what was going to happen because we had read it in the book.

And then the star attraction, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!  I hadn't seen this is so long.  So long in fact, I didn't remember there's quite a bit of story that happens before the Headless Horseman even shows up.  A story about two men fighting for the affections of a very slender waisted woman.

Which now that I watch it, I am forced to wonder...Was the horseman actually the other rival in a scheme to murder him?  And he succeeded?  Or was there really a ghost?  I don't know...And it's great.

Oren was very scared at the end of the Sleepy Hollow cartoon, much to my great satisfaction, hiding beneath his blanket for the very frightening ride through the woods in the night.  When it ended he said it wasn't scary at all...But he also insists that someone sleep with him when he goes to bed.

Side note: There's a line in the song about the headless horseman: "Doesn't matter if it's Black, White or even Red, The Headless Horseman wants a head!"
Oh boy.

  1. Yeah this movie as a child, scared the crap out of me. Kind of funny that I don't remember the first part of the movie.
